Cenozoic Era Fossils

The Cenozoic era is from the Paleocene epoch to the Pleistocene epoch with is 65 million years ago until 10 thousand years ago and is the end of the age of the dinosaurs and the first mammals. Some fossils from this era are mammal bones and teeth, sharks teeth and whale bones and teeth, coral agate, and petrified wood. I have more coral and petrified wood that I will add to the page soon.

Miocene age fossil, 10 to 20 million years, Megalodon shark tooth is 3 inch along the serrated edge. The upper corners are chipped in the otherwise intact tooth. The brown color is due to the natural occurrence of soaking in river water high in tannic acid. From a river estuary in South Carolina.

Calcite Coral Head, Florida

Steep pyramid crystals of clear calcite fill the interior of the calcified coral head. The out side has a large tubular structure coated with calcite and a section with the pock marked exterior. The 1 1/2 pound fossil coral is 4 inch by 4 inch by 2 3/4 inch with a flat side for easy display as photographed.

Hollow tubes wind through the crystallized fossil coral forming a honeycomb structure that has a bright sparkling appearance. 8 inch by 4 inch by 4 1/2 inch, weighing 4 3/4 pounds. This looks like the interior of Manicini coral.

Petrified Wood Arizona

The 12 pound 2 ounce log secArizona fossil wood is yellow, blue, and red with outer wood texture. At 6 1/2 inches by 5 1/2 inches by 5 1/2 inches, the large petrified log section is an impressive piece for collection display, interior decoration or as a patio rock.
