The
annularia stellata leaf whorl is from the Pennsylvanian Period,
about 300 million years ago. The 1 3/8 inch siderite nodule holds
the annularia stellata leaf whorl. Annularia was foliage from a
25 foot tall relative of the horsetail family. The Annularia leaf
fossil was gathered 25 years ago at Chicago Coal Mine, open pit
11, near Braidwood Illinois. The open pit is now a lake.
