Zincite, Franklinite Bookends

The bookends are composed of rare zinc minerals that are common at Sterling Hill Mine, New Jersey. Primarily zincite and franklinite, the zinc ore also has streaks of white calcite and willamite that fluoresce bright red and green under UV light. The bookends are extremely heavy at 17 pounds which eliminated the possibility of flat lap polishing on the cut surface. The combination of gemmy red zincite and metallic octahedrons of franklinite is an interesting and attractive set of bookends and a great presentation for a mineral specimen considered rare world wide.
