| Aquamarine,
black tourmaline, and cleavelandite have a coating of hyalite opal.
The blue aquamarines range in size from ¼ inch thick by 1
½ inch long to tiny ½ inch crystals. The black tourmalines
are heavily striated with terminated tips. The cleavlandite is groups
of platy white crystals. The hyalite opal is pale blue. The opal
covers much of the top of the specimen, with additional groupings
of clear bubbles. The 5.6 pound pegmatite mineral specimen, from
Madagascar, is 8 inches by 7 ½ inches by 4 ½ inches
thick. The mineral specimen was formed deep underground where rare
gasses, from magma, collected and cooled slow enough to form the
array of crystals. |
