celestite (Strontium Sulfate) from Meckley Quarry in Northumberland,
from the West side of the highway. The varieties of celestite crystals
include blocky, tabular, and others with steep termination. Tonolaway
Limestone has algae beds that have many openings that where enriched
by hydrothermal solutions. The vugs hold gray calcite crystals topped
with blue celestite and white strontianite (strontium carbonate)
in steeply terminated bypyramidal crystals and in white spiky spheres
consisting of bundled needle crystals. 4 by 2 1/2 inch by 2 inch
with several 1/2 to 1 inch crystals at the base. |
