Celestite and Strontianite

Strontium Sulfate occurs in limestone rock. The beautiful blue color, bright luster, and tabular to octohedron crystal shapes makes this a favorite mineral specimen. When celestite combines with calcite, strontianite, strontium carbonate is formed in spherical mounds of needle crystals filling vugs in limestone. Many from either Madagascar or celestine from Pennsylvania. Click on the thumbnail photos for larger photos.
